Your stories, brought to life.

Dominic Smith, a man with glasses and a blue shirt crossing his arms in front of a bookshelf filled with books, in a well-lit room.

Hi, I’m Dominic Smith, a New York Times bestselling novelist, a veteran writing teacher and coach, and an experienced ghostwriter and editor who has helped develop books and stories that break through, including with a USA Today bestseller for Google’s productivity guru.

Whether you’re starting out as a writer, or putting the finishing touches on your next book, I can help. I work with clients to customize an approach that works for them, but it’s always grounded in rigorous and thoughtful feedback and an appreciation for all the demands of the writing life.

Why do I call my site Garamond Studio? Consider it a nod to Claude Garamond, the 16th-century French type designer whose namesake font has graced every one of my six published manuscripts. Did I mention historical fiction is a passion of mine?

“My bestselling book wouldn't have come to be without Dominic's hard work on each word of the text and his guidance throughout the entire process.”
— Laura Mae Martin, Google’s productivity guru and author of Uptime: A Practical Guide to Personal Productivity & Wellbeing

Writing & Editing Services

Whether you need a careful line edit of your manuscript, developmental editing for a work-in-progress, or you need me to partner with you as a ghostwriter, I can offer both hourly and project-based rates for your project.

One-On-One Coaching

We customize a writing coaching program that meets your needs. It starts with a 30-minute free consultation to talk about your goals and writing experience. I may also ask for a short writing sample.

From there, we work on a plan that works for both of us, whether it’s weekly check-ins, manuscript reviews, or guided tutorials on specific craft topics or the mechanics of agents, publishing, and the writer’s life.

Writing Workshops
& Retreats

From time to time, I offer online and in-person writing workshops and retreats, where a small community of writers can come together to develop their work within a safe but rigorous creative space. Course fees vary but I try to make them affordable.
